If you choose not to use Dysport, there are similar and alternative treatment methods available. Dysport is used to treat the deep lines that occur between the eyebrows. These frown lines are the result of repetitive facial expressions. Over time, the muscles in this area begin to contract. Dysport temporarily weakens the muscles by sending a signal that temporarily blocks the nerve and prevents contraction. Dysport is injected at a doctor's office and patients should be able to return to their normal activities the same day. Dysport results last between 3 and 4 months.
Dysport contains botulinum toxin type A. This is the same active ingredient found in Botox. Unlike Botox, patients will see results from Dysport in as little as 24 hours. Clinical studies indicate that Dysport diffuses into the affected area more rapidly than Botox. The concentration of the botulinum toxin in Dysport is less than that available in Botox. If you have developed an immunity to the effects of Botox, you may be a candidate for Dysport. However, there are alternative injectable products available to treat deep frown lines.
Botox and Purtox
Botox (botulinum toxin type A) is the same active ingredient found in Dysport, but at a higher concentration. If facial lines are very deep, a doctor may suggest the stronger dose. Purtox is also a product containing botulinum toxin type A. Your doctor will advise you as to which products are best for your situation.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be used to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a natural ingredient found in the tissues of all living organisms. It stimulates collagen production in the dermis and adds moisture to the tissue. A doctor will inject the hyaluronic acid into the treatment area and the patient should be able to resume normal activities one to two hours after the procedure. Captique, Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm and Prevelle are trademark brands that contain hyaluronic acid.
Evolence
Evolence is uniquely formulated. It is used to treat severe, deep lines and wrinkles. It is a combination of porcine collagen and sugar. The collagen binds to the sugar structure to produce a natural look with longer lasting results. Evolence is an injectable fibrous product. The filler is injected into the treatment area. Patients may return to normal activities shortly after treatment. Results last up to one year.
Radiesse
Radiesse is used to treat facial lines and wrinkles. It is composed of a carboxymethylcellulose gel, which has been suspended in a hydroxyl apatite microsphere solution. Connective tissue at the treatment site will begin to adhere to the microspheres, giving a fuller, smoother look. Results will last up to two years. Touch up treatments are needed. Radiesse is a permanent filler.
Artefill
Artefill is a permanent filler. It contains a bovine collagen that has been added to a microsphere suspension solution. It is used to treat deep wrinkles. It is not for use around the eyes. The doctor will inject the Artefill beneath the wrinkle. The collagen will break down and begin to rebuild.
