Fraxel Recovery and Results

The Fraxel skin rejuvenation procedure results in smoother, more even toned skin, as well as a reduction or elimination of fine lines and wrinkles, freckles, and sun and age spots, without the downtime associated with other more invasive procedures.

Fraxel treatment is performed in an outpatient setting in less than an hour. Most men and women experience little discomfort with the Fraxel procedure, and are able to return to work or other normal activity immediately after treatment.

Immediately following treatment with the Fraxel laser system, you may experience some slight swelling and redness, as well as minor irritation, but these effects are temporary and will subside soon after treatment. Because the Fraxel procedure treats the underlying layers of skin, makeup can be applied after the procedure to help disguise any resulting redness.

In some men and women, redness and mild irritation, such as those experienced following a mild sunburn, may persist for up to two weeks following treatment. In very rare cases, scarring or infection may occur as a result of treatment, but these side effects are uncommon, and pose a greater risk for patients with a known history of poor healing.

After treatment, you will begin to see freckles, sun and age spots, and other discoloration begin to fade away, and skin will appear fresher and more evenly toned. In addition, because the procedure encourages collagen to form, your skin will continue to appear fresher and firmer for weeks following the procedure.

Currently, there are three types of Fraxel treatments, which offer varying results and recovery times. Men and women undergoing the two milder forms of Fraxel usually require more than one Fraxel treatment to achieve the results they are looking for. Because it is a relatively noninvasive procedure, treatments can be safely performed within two to four weeks of each other.
