History of Blue Light Therapy

About 40 years ago, scientists at NASA discovered that Blue Light Therapy was a beneficial way to repair damaged cells, as evidenced by their studies with plants. Throughout the years, physicians and scientists have continued to find ways to use this helpful therapy outside of the space shuttle, and today it has become very popular as a way to treat a variety of common skin conditions. It is generally safe and gentle for skin and produces no known side effects.

How Blue Light Therapy Works

Blue Light Therapy is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses the direct application of wavelengths of blue light to simulate the effects of real sunlight without the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, which are known to cause cancer. These LED (light emitting diodes) are effective at quickly reducing painful blemishes by encouraging the skin to create powerful oxygen molecules which purify the skin and kill the type of bacteria that causes acne.

Additionally, this type of treatment encourages the skin to produce collagen. Collagen allows skin regeneration and helps promote elasticity, which keeps skin looking youthful, healthy and clear. In addition to the treatment of acne, phototherapy using Blue Light is shown to be surprisingly effective at treating wrinkles, sun damage, uneven skin tone and rosacea.
