Post-Fraxel Restore Lifestyle & Maintenance

Fraxel Restore is a skin rejuvenation technique that employs non-ablative lasers which will help with collagen production, regenerating the skin. The laser beams treat one small portion of skin at a time, so the treatment will result in minimal skin damage and reduced recovery time. You must pay special attention to your skin during the recovery time, to ensure that the effects of Fraxel Restore last longer.

Post Procedure Skin Care

After getting a Fraxel Restore treatment you will feel like you have a mild sunburn. The skin will be red or pink and you may feel a burning sensation in the treated areas. The use of cool compresses may alleviate the burning sensation; ask your physician to recommend a suitable soothing solution to apply on the compresses. Depending on your skin type and its ability to regenerate, the redness may persist for up to 1 week. The swelling will be present for up to 5 days and will be at its worst during the second day. You can also use a special topical cream that can soothe the skin without causing irritation.

Skin flaking will occur approximately 4 days after the procedure. Make sure you use a gentle moisturizer to protect the skin and to reduce the flaking appearance. Oral antibiotics will often be prescribed. Even though infections are rare, these may happen and prevention is easier than the treatment.

Avoid the Sun

The sun can have damaging effects after a Fraxel Restore procedure, which makes the skin particularly sensitive. For 3 months after the procedure, you should wear a high protection factor sunscreen (above SPF 30). After the 3 month period, you should continue wearing sunscreen and possibly large brimmed hats.

The sun is responsible for the premature aging of skin, the appearance of some wrinkles and fine lines and age spots. Avoid the sun to maintain the effects of Fraxel Restore for as long as possible.

Use Quality Skin Products

The skin products you use can affect the quality of your skin. Using suitable skin products can maintain the effects of Fraxel Restore for longer. Choose quality products that have been clinically tested and that don't cause irritation on your skin. Use day moisturizers and night creams. Ask your esthetician to recommend a few products.

Use a face peel at home at least once per week to remove the dead skin cells and promote the production of collagen and new skin cells, and get a facial once per month.

Please note that the effects of Fraxel Restore are different in each patient, and the duration of the effects of this procedure may vary. However, by changing your lifestyle, staying away from the sun and using suitable skin products, you can keep your skin healthy and younger looking for a longer period of time.
