What to Expect During a Fraxel Repair Laser Treatment

Fraxel Repair is one of the recently invented fraxel techniques that uses fractional technology. The Fraxel repair is more invasive that the other fraxel treatments, but the results are also more dramatic. The treatment is done in one appointment only. If you are about to have this procedure done, you should know what to expect.

Preparing for Fraxel Repair

Make sure your face is clean and remove any makeup; the face will also be cleaned before the laser treatment.

The next step is the application of an anesthetic, which is an ointment that will be spread all around the face and the areas that will be treated. The cream should be applied 1 hour before the treatment.

If you are sensitive, your plastic surgeon may also recommend a relaxant medication such as Antivan.

During the Treatment

The fraxel repair treatment employs laser with carbon dioxide (CO2) energy and a 14,000 nm wavelength.

A laser device will be used along with a cooler that will blow cold air on the areas to be treated. The laser device will be moved vertically on the skin. The device makes a sound at all times during the treatment, so don’t worry if you hear it beeping.

You won’t feel any discomfort, as the anesthetic and the cool air will prevent this. Your eyes will be covered, but you will be conscious during the procedure.

After the skin is treated, the surgeon will apply a photodynamic treatment to speed up the recovery and reduce swelling.

Duration of Fraxel Repair

The laser procedure lasts between 30 and 40 minutes for a full face repair. If the neck or other areas are also treated, the procedure may last up to 60 minutes.

You only require 1 appointment for optimal results.
