Cool lipo is a safe cosmetic surgery with minimal side effects. However, you should know what to expect after the surgery and what side effects cool lipo has.
Skin Irregularities
Even if skin irregularities are rare in patients that have had cool lipo procedure, you should be aware that this may occur. The skin irregularities may be caused by remaining fat cells in the treated area that were not extracted. This does not occur if you choose a surgeon with experience.
Skin Sloughing
When the skin gets detached from the flesh, this is called skin sloughing. This occurs when the surgeon uses a cannula (the circular tube that extracts fat) that is too large for the patient. A cannula that is too large will damage the skin.
The skin sloughing is more frequent in patients with a poor blood circulation, or diabetics and smokers.
It is important to choose an experienced surgeon to avoid skin sloughing.
Loose Skin
Even if cool lipo will tighten your skin, being like a fat removal and a lift procedure in one, there are cases when patients have loose skin after the surgery. The human skin is elastic and should be able to adjust to your new shape in a few weeks; however, in older patients, collagen treatments may be applied, and in rare cases, a surgery is needed to correct the flabby skin.
Temporary Numbness
After the surgery, you may feel temporary numbness in the treated areas that will go away in a few weeks. In rare cases, if the surgeon has touched a nerve, the numbness will be permanent.
In most cases, the surgery tools are accompanied by a microscopic camera that will allow the surgeon to avoid important nerves and perform the surgery risk free.
Unequally Distributed Fat
Cool lipo is a surgery that extracts the fat cells and after the surgery. you will never have fat deposits in this area. However, if you gain weight, the fat will be deposited in areas that were not treated with cool lipo, so the fat may be unequally distributed and look unaesthetic.
Minor Bruising and Swelling
Even if bruising and swelling can hardly be considered side effects, you should know that 7 to 10 days post surgery you may experience minor bruising and swelling. The swelling is caused by the injection that contains a saline mixture, which is injected at the beginning of the cool lipo procedure. This saline solution contains lidocaine, an anesthetic that is meant to reduce the bleeding during surgery.
However, cool lipo is not an aggressive surgery as traditional liposuction, so the bruising and swelling will be less visible. The cool lipo procedure liquefies the fat before extracting it, so this makes it a more gentle procedure.
These side effects can occur if you are not a good candidate for the surgery or if the surgeon does not have experience in cool lipo. Make sure you are a good candidate for cool lipo and that you have realistic targets. Choose your plastic surgeon taking into consideration his experience and certification. Follow all the instructions provided by your plastic surgeon prior and after the procedure to avoid any side effects and complications.
