ProLipo Myths and Facts

ProLipo is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed with the help of laser beams. The wavelength of the lasers used varies between 940 and 1320 nm. There are few myths that circulate regarding the ProLipo procedure which should be clarified.

Myth: ProLipo Is Suitable for All Patients

Fact: ProLipo can only be applied in patients that require a subtle remodeling, as it cannot remove more than a few liters of fat at one time. If the patient needs to lose 10 to 15 pounds of fat, ProLipo can be applied. ProLipo is recommended for people that have stubborn pockets of fat that are tricky to remove through diet or working out.

Myth: ProLipo Is a Fat Removal Procedure Only

Fact: ProLipo is also a skin tightening procedure. It employs lasers that will activate collagen, and this will result in a skin tightening effect. The tightening will be visible four to six weeks after the procedure. There are certain types of liposuction that won't tighten the skin, and it may remain loose for a few months or permanently, depending on the capacity of the body to regenerate and produce collagen.

Myth: ProLipo Is Like a Traditional Liposuction

Fact: ProLipo uses lasers and is different from traditional liposuction. The techniques used in each are similar, but the ProLipo surgery will be gentler. Due to the fact that the lasers will melt the fat cells before they are suctioned, the patient will have fewer bruises, no skin irregularities and no scars.

Myth: ProLipo Causes Uneven Skin

Fact: Even though traditional liposuction or other more aggressive liposuction procedures cause uneven skin, ProLipo will result in soft, even skin. This is because the adipose tissues are melted by the lasers, and then they will be gently extracted with a small cannula. It is also important to have an experienced plastic surgeon who knows how to perform the procedure and avoid skin irregularities.

Myth: ProLipo Is a Procedure with Permanent Results

Fact: The results depend on the lifestyle of the patient. People believe that once the fat is removed, the treated areas will stay this way for good. ProLipo removes only a certain level of fat cells, leaving some fat cells behind in the treated areas. The patient will redeposit fat in the treated areas, should they gain weight.

Myth: ProLipo Is an Expensive Procedure

Fact: ProLipo is an advantageous procedure. It may have variable costs, depending on the area that is treated and the amount of fat removed. However, given that it also provides a lift, this is a highly advantageous procedure.

Myth: ProLipo Requires a Long Recovery Time

Fact: The down time is less than one week. Traditional liposuction is a surgery that may require more than one month recovery time. ProLipo is a liposuction surgery, but it is minimally invasive and patients typically recover in up to five days. Unlike more aggressive fat removal procedures, ProLipo will only cause minimal bruising, redness and swelling.
