What to Expect During Lipotherme

Lipotherme is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a laser to remove excess fat and firm the skin. Lipotherme treats stubborn fatty deposits and is often used as a follow-up to liposuction. The treatment works on the face, neck, abdomen, back, hips and buttocks. Here are some things you can expect if you choose to pursue the lipotherme treatment.

Pre-Treatment

Before the treatment, the doctor will administer a local anesthetic to numb the targeted area.

The Lipotherme Procedure

After the area has been prepped, the doctor will inject a small metal tube under the skin. She will then put the laser through the tube, which will allow the laser to heat the targeted area. The doctor will then move the tube back and forth. Once the laser heats the fat cells, they will liquefy and melt away. The heat from the laser will cause the skin to contract and contour to the new shape of the body, leaving the patient with tighter, younger looking skin.

Recovery

It typically takes one day to recover from the lipotherme procedure. The doctor will recommend avoiding exercise and other strenuous physical activity immediately after. Some patients experience mild pain or minor swelling after the procedure, but this subsides after a few days.

Results

Results from the treatment vary from person to person. However, most patients see noticeable changes in only a few weeks. The results are permanent. Once the fat cells have been destroyed, they don't come back. If patients gain weight after the treatment, fat cells may accumulate in other areas.
