Is Liposuction For You

From the physician's point of view, almost everyone is a candidate for liposuction. However, from the patient's point of view the issue is not that straightforward.

The individual must be realistic and have practical expectations of what the procedure can deliver and achieve. No matter how much fat the procedure can remove, it does not change the personality or character of the individual

Other requirements for liposuction include individuals who

- Have firm elastic skin

- Are not too obese

- Have localized pockets of fat

- Are physically healthy

- Have no serious mental problems

- Are between the ages of 20-55

- Have tried diet to lose the fat

- Failed a regimen of exercise

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

You may be a good candidate for liposuction if you have localized excess fat or if you desire contouring in any of the following areas:

- cheeks, chins

- lumpy neck

- upper arms

- breast

- chest

- back

- abdomen and waist

- hips and buttocks

- inner and outer thighs

- inner knee

- calves and ankles

Liposuction is always riskier in:

- very obese individuals

- those with other medical problems like diabetes, heart disease, lung problems

- those with poor blood circulation

- those with skin infections

- those who have just recently undergone a similar

- elderly individuals- these individuals have very lax skin and this does not allow the body to reshape well

Before getting liposuction, get a couple of opinions. You may find that besides the liposuction you may also need a combination of liposuction and a tummy tuck. Do not be afraid to ask questions and get to know what the complications and limitations of the procedure are.

Get to know the surgeon and ask him/her about their training, experience and ask for before and after photos.

Ask what are the preoperative and postoperative instructions, how much time you will need off and what to expect

Finally, check up on your physician's credentials and determine if he/she is certified in the field of plastic surgery. Do not rush into liposuction. It is strictly an elective procedure and you can lose a lot more than fat if you are not careful
