Accent Treatment For Cellulite

Cellulite is a common finding in more than 80% of women over the age of 18. Neither the cause nor an adequate treatment is available. In the last decade, the use of the Accent radiofrequency laser has been postulated to reduce cellulite by changing the size and shape of the fat cells. The accent laser is a non surgical method with little downtime.

The Accent laser generates heat waves which break up the fat particles and causes coiling of the collagen. This leads to a tighter, flatter and smoother looking skin. It is also claimed that the radiofrequency waves stimulate removal of excess body fluids and fat from the area.

Whether Accent laser really works is difficult because not everyone claims to have the desired result. Even among individuals, the results are very variable and hard to predict.

There are isolated reports that the Accent laser reduces cellulite after the 4-6 treatments.

However, one should know that Accent Laser is not a permanent treatment for cellulite.

Changes in life style, diet and regular exercise must compliment this therapy if the cosmetic results are to be maintained.

The accent laser can be used on individuals of all races and skin types. The vendors of the Accent laser claim that other benefits of the treatment include:

- improved circulation

- removal of toxins from the body

- less muscle pain

- better joint function

- firmer and tighter looking skin

- nicer looking body contour

Despite all the hype, it is still only a temporary method for treating cellulite.

As to how Accent works is not really understood but speculations include the following:

- it causes tightening of the collagen molecules

- it breaks up the fat particles

- it improves blood circulation

These 3 methods somehow lead to reduction in cellulite and the skin tightening.

The Accent laser treatment is usually done in the physician's office. The hand held device is held close to the skin and gently moved over the surface. The device does have a cooling tip so that the heat energy is not felt as pain. The average treatment times vary from 10-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

The results after Accent treatment are not immediate. The improvement is gradual and becomes evident after a few months. Since the treatment only produces a temporary reduction in cellulite, additional maintenance treatments are required to maintain the cosmetic benefit.

Soon after the treatment, most individuals develop redness at the site which disappears over the next 2-4 hours.

Most individuals can resume their normal activities within 24-48 hours. There is minimal pain or swelling after the procedure.

Accent RF cellulite treatment is effective, non invasive, and an easy, comfortable treatment for the patient.
