Fraxel is a non-invasive laser treatment that rejuvenates your
skin and repairs wrinkles, sun damage, and scarring. The Fraxel laser
penetrates just the top layer of your skin and stimulates natural collagen
growth for a more youthful appearance. There is very little pain and less than
a week of downtime.
How Fraxel treatment is performed
Fraxel is performed in your dermatologist’s office and takes
about two hours. Your doctor will apply a numbing cream on your face that takes
about 90 minutes to work. After removing the numbing cream you’ll be given
protective eyewear and your dermatologist will pass the Fraxel hand piece over
your skin. You’ll feel a sensation of hot pins and needles, but the discomfort
is mild.
Most people will need one to five treatment sessions spaced three
weeks apart for maximum results. This is because the Fraxel laser treats 20% of
your skin each session, leaving tiny spots of untreated skin to help you heal
faster and reduce discomfort.
Recovery and results
Right after treatment your face will feel hot like
you have a mild sunburn. Your skin will be dry and rough for about one week
while it peels and heals. Some people can return to work the day after
treatment, but you may want to spend a few days at home since your skin will be
sensitive, red, and flaky.
