Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler for the face that restores skin volume and reduces the appearance of wrinkles by stimulating natural collagen growth. Sculptra contains a water base and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microparticles. These PLLA microparticles stimulate new collagen growth in your skin for a natural look, and results can last up to two years.
How Sculptra treatment is performed
Sculptra injections are performed in-office using topical or injected anesthetic. Three injection sessions spaced over three to four months is a common regime.Your dermatologist will mark out your treatment areas with a pen and numb them with a topical or injected anesthetic such as lidocaine. Sculptra is injected into the deep dermis layer of your skin in a cross-hatch pattern. After the injections, your dermatologist will massage the area to evenly distribute the Sculptra. You’ll continue to massage these areas a few times a day at home following your dermatologist’s instructions.
Recovery and results
There’s no downtime after Sculptra injections, but you may have some temporary bruising, redness, swelling, or mild discomfort. You’ll see immediate skin volumizing due to the water base in Sculptra, but this will go away after a few days as your body absorbs the water.
