I am not familiar with the Genesis treatment. I prefer to use the Fraxel laser or fillers such as collagen, Juvederm or Restylane.

I do not know enough about Genesis but the elos technology is the only type available that has the reverse cone technology meaning that the majority of the energy is directed below the surface of the skin to minimize surface damage even to darker skin types. The device combines infrared and radiofrequency energies. After a series of treatments depending on the severity, very nice results have been achieved for skin resurfacing.

Vertical lines about the mouth, also called "smoker's lines" (mouth lines as you call them) are difficult to treat. They are the result of fat atrophy (natural loss of fatty tissue with aging), the underlying facial muscles, and loss of collagen tissue and elasticity. I generally find that a multifaceted approach is necessary to make noticeable improvements. There are four treatments that I think are helpful. Dermal filler augmentation of the lips with Juvederm or other hyaluronic acid fillers is the single best treatment. It will help restore fullness to the lips and "stretch" the smokers lines out. Low dose Botox can reduce the muscular component of these lines. Radiesse applied in fine thin horizontal lines just above the lip for the collagen building effect is also helpful. Finally, collagen building lasers can help restore the elasticity of the skin and reduce "smoker's lines" by providing structural support to the skin. Any one of these techniques may not give satisfactory results alone, but by combining two, three, or even all four techniques a significant improvement can be obtained. A physician consultation is necessary to evaluate which treatments would be best for any individual patient.

For laser treatments around the mouth I would recommend a Fraxel or Martix RF treatment in combination with facial fillers. However, you would need to have a consultation with out seeing a patient it is difficult to give a proper treatment plan.

IPL will not be helpful. Laser genesis/Laser skin resurfacing does help and generally requires 3 to 5 treatments.

IPL and photofacials actually do not work best for lines around the mouth. Depending on the depth of the lines you can do treatments from microdermabrasions, chemical peels and facial and lip fillers to help with the lines. The best idea is to come in for a consultation so that we can evaluate the lines and give you your options and pricing! We look forward to
hearing from you, have a great day!

Lines around the mouth are very hard to revise with laser treatments. Although we do offer laser resurfacing for wrinkles around the mouth, the expectations we set are very realistic and the procedure we offer (Erbium resurfacing) has 5-7 days of downtime. We are not confident at all that you would see a significant change to mouth lines using no downtime procedures like the IPL or laser Genesis. For fast & dramatic results with mouth lines we think you should consider dermal fillers and/or Botox.

Personally, I do not think that IPL is a great choice for "mouth lines". To get the best long term results you will need to do some form of laser resurfacing.
