Pregnancy and Acoustic Wave Therapy

Acoustic Wave Therapy, or AWT, is an effective cosmetic procedure that reduces the appearance of cellulite. Women are more susceptible to having cellulite, due to the fact that the fat in women builds up differently than in men. As with other cosmetic treatments, pregnancy should be considered when applying the Acoustic Wave Therapy treatment.

Acoustic Wave Therapy before Pregnancy

Acoustic Wave Therapy can be applied before a pregnancy with no contraindications. The treatment uses a mechanical device that does not affect the reproductive system or your capacity to conceive.

Acoustic Wave Therapy during Pregnancy

Acoustic Wave Therapy employs a mechanical device known as the D-actor, which does not use any chemicals or lasers.

Even though the treatment hasn't been tested on pregnant women, it is advisable to stay away from Acoustic Wave Therapy while pregnant. Put the baby's safety first and postpone the procedure until after the baby is born. Alternatively, you may talk to your surgeon and determine if the procedure is recommended. However, given that pregnancy can create cellulite, you may want to wait until after the baby is born to get an Acoustic Wave Therapy treatment.

Take a pregnancy test prior to a scheduled Acoustic Wave Therapy appointment.

Acoustic Wave Therapy after Pregnancy

Most women opt to get the Acoustic Wave Therapy after the pregnancy, as cellulite can form or intensify during pregnancy. Pregnancy is not a cause of cellulite, but may contribute to its formation.

Acoustic Wave Therapy should be applied at least 6 weeks post partum or after you stop breastfeeding.
