FDA Approval Status for Laser Liposuction

Laser liposuction is a major advancement in liposuction surgery. Today, it is one of the most generally performed cosmetic surgery procedures to remove cellulite or unwanted fatty deposits using advanced laser technology. Laser assisted liposuction is considered to be safer, easier and faster and offers several benefits over traditional liposuction.

Smartlipo, a widely accepted laser-assisted lipolysis procedure, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in November 2006. In January 2008, CoolLipo procedure received FDA clearance. Tickle Lipo and ProLipo are other prominent FDA-approved liposuction procedures.

Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Treatment

Various sources have mentioned that laser liposuction procedures are less invasive techniques. They are a safe and effective way to permanently remove excess fat deposits from several parts of the body, including inner and outer thighs, abdomen, arms, neck and face. Cosmetic physicians use only local anesthesia while performing laser liposculpture. Results achieved through laser assisted liposuction are mostly permanent, as long as a healthy diet and regular exercises are maintained.

The best candidates for laser liposuction are women and men with normal body weight (and who have bulging and flabby body areas). An experienced physican, during an initial consultation, will evaluate your health condition, let you know if you are a good candidate, and let you know which laser liposuction methods may be most suitable for you.
