Learning About Melasma

There are many different kinds of skin conditions out there. Some people are lucky enough to avoid them, either because of genetics or because of the right lifestyle choices. Then, there are skin conditions that are caused because of hormones, such as pimples. Whatever the skin condition, it is important for the person who has it to be properly informed about it.

Take, for example, the situation of a woman who has Melasma. This skin condition causes irregular pigmentation in the form of brown patches on both sides of the face. These brown patches are usually found on the lip, the bridge of the nose, the cheeks, and the forehead.

Something that people suffering from Melasma are often wondering about is what causes this skin condition n the first place. Melasma is something that is almost exclusive to women, especially women who are of a culture with a darker skin. Hormonal changes, such those that happen with pregnancy, could also be a significant factor.

Another possible cause of Melasma is excessive exposure to the sun. When the woman is exposed to the sun for long periods of time, then that can trigger an excess production of melanin. Melanin is what the skin produces in order to protect itself.

There is no one cure for this kid of skin condition. Sometimes the condition will disappear on its own, or a dermatologist might apply bleaching creams. Of course, it is also important to wear an SPF of 30 or more to avoid dangerous sun exposure.
