While we use Jessner peels at our practice, we use them only as they relate to Melasma as a way to increase the absorption of the hydroquinone products that are used to fade the pigment associated with Melasma. We do not know of any superfical peels (jessner, Vitalize or another) like these that will lead to a significant improvement in Melasma without the use of hydroquinone. Ask your practitioner for before and after pictures if they are only suggesting a peel!

Melasma is a tough issue to crack. There are treatments that can help remove the pigmentation, but it will eventually come back. You might also look into more aggressive laser procedures that are designed to fight Melasma. Fraxel is about to launch their new product, Fraxel Dual, and it has a specific wavelength for pigment problems.
