Dermabrasion and Medium Skin Tones

Dermabrasion is a common skin treatment that works to remove the outer layers of skin by using particles of matter, much in the same way one might use sandpaper. By spraying these particles on the skin, the outer layers of skin are removed and the skin itself is made to be smoother and more refined in appearance. Not all skin tones are good candidates for dermabrasion.

What Medium Skin Tone Patients Can Expect

Dermabrasion is a procedure which uses very large particles to smooth the skin. In doing so, the results are going to be more noticeable, unlike in microdermabrasion. With medium skin tones, there can be some permanent skin discoloration as a result. While this is not always the case, those patients who have medium skin tones will need to discuss the risks with their dermatologist or technician. This is an especially important conversation to have when the treatment is on the face.

While not everyone may be a strong candidate for dermabrasion, other treatment options do exist to help remove uneven skin cells without hurting the appearance of the skin itself. Dermabrasion is designed to remove skin, but when it harms the appearance, it's not a treatment to choose.
