History of Prevelle Silk

A dermal filler, Prevelle Silk is used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It is injected beneath the skin with a fine needle and fills in the supportive tissue to give the skin a firmer, smoother look. The hyaluronic acid-based formula attracts additional moisture to the skin, contributing to a plumper, fuller look. In addition, Prevelle Silk contains lidocaine to reduce discomfort during treatment.

Development of Prevelle Silk

Marketed by Mentor Corp., Prevelle Silk received FDA approval in May of 2008. The addition of lidocaine to Prevelle Silk required a number of studies to determine how the lidocaine would be released into the body and how effective it would be. Development studies showed that the lidocaine release varies based on the type of gel and the gel's consistency. Studies of Prevelle Silk have also tested it on patients of color. Prevelle Silk is very effective on those with darker skin tones, and keloid formation was very rare in these studies.

Cost of Prevelle Silk

In addition to providing added comfort for patients, Prevelle Silk is less expensive than other dermal fillers. This lower price makes it a popular option for patients who wish to make a quick improvement to their looks, but do not want to make a sizable investment in cosmetic procedures.
