How to Prepare for Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler used to treat fine and moderate wrinkles and other signs of aging such as dropped cheeks. Radiesse is administered in 20 to 40 minutes, and it is an outpatient treatment. Getting informed on how to prepare for Radiesse is important in determining the effectiveness and the duration of Radiesse.

Preparing for Radiesse

Before the procedure, you should discontinue treatments with non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or other drugs that may cause extended bleeding or the risk of blood clot formation. This should be done 7 to 10 days before the Radiesse procedure.

Birth control pills may also be avoided 10 to 14 days before the procedure. Vitamin E and St. John’s Wort taken orally should also be discontinued. Inform your plastic surgeon if you are taking any other type of medications. The skin will also have to be clean, so use a skin cleanser; don’t wear any makeup on the day Radiesse is injected.

To be fully prepared, it also helps to know what to expect during the procedure. Radiesse will be performed under local anesthesia; typically a numbing cream will be applied on the areas that need to be treated. The plastic surgeon will insert a few fine needles, injecting the Radiesse solution. Ice packs may be applied on the face to minimize swelling. Arrange for someone to pick you up after the procedure.

Typically, patients return to their normal activities after a Radiesse treatment. However, if you think you need a day off, make the appropriate arrangements.
