9 Reasons to Choose Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion, also known as Microderm, is a cosmetic procedure that uses mechanical abrasion techniques and different crystals to remove the superficial skin layers and reveal fresh, new skin. The procedure is non invasive and has many benefits. There are a number of reasons to choose Microdermabrasion, such as:

1. Removes Damaged Skin

The skin regenerates on a regular basis and the dead skin cells may be eliminated, but these may also remain on the surface of the skin, giving it a tired and old appearance.

The crystal particles used in the Microdermabrasion procedure will mechanically peel the dead skin cells off the face or other areas that are treated. This will mean that the sun spots and other imperfections that may be present on the surface of the skin will also be gone.

2. Improves Skin Texture

By removing the dead skin cells, the skin left will be smoother with a visibly improved texture. The results may last a few months, after which the procedure may be repeated. If the dead skin cells are removed, the appearance of the wrinkles may also be diminished.

3. Diminishes Scars

Microdermabrasion is effective in removing or diminishing scars. Scars that are raised above skin level can be successfully removed, while scars that are sunken may only be made less visible. Note that Microdermabrasion may not remove major scars.

4. Reduces Stretch Marks

Stretch marks may appear due to a sudden weight gain, weight variations or pregnancy and are very difficult to reduce. Stretch marks may have a red appearance in the early stages and will turn into white colored marks. The red stretch marks may be successfully removed with a few Microdermabrasion treatments, while the white marks will be visibly diminished.

5. Reduces Acne

Microdermabrasion may be used in patients with acne, provided the patients are not under Accutane treatment. The Microdermabrasion procedure will reduce the visibility of acne and acne scars, but several sessions of Microdermabrasion are needed for optimal results.

6. Minimal Recovery Time Required

Microdermabrasion is an outpatient procedure that will cause minimal swelling and skin irritation. This will only be visible during the first days after the procedure and may be less noticeable in patients with darker or medium skin tones.

7. No Anesthesia Is Required

Microdermabrasion may be performed without local anesthesia, as it is not a very painful procedure. Some patients may prefer an anesthetic ointment if they have a low pain threshold. However, most patients consider the pain caused by a Microdermabrasion treatment as bearable.

8. Stimulates Collagen Formation

Even if the Microdermabrasion is not known as a procedure that tightens the skin, the procedure may have a mild stimulating effect on the collagen. Consequently, some patients may experience a skin tightening effect after a Microdermabrasion treatment.

9. Has FDA Approval

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that has received FDA approval and is considered safe for cosmetic use.
