JUVEDERM for Adolescents

JUV?DERM?, an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler, is typically used by dermatologists and/or plastic surgeons to instantly eliminate facial wrinkles for up to one year. These same medical specialists have used JUV?DERM? in adolescents for the elimination of shallow to deep acne scars.

Acne Scars and JUV?DERM?

Scar bands from acne cause depressions in the skin. These should be broken up by a procedure known as subcision before JUV?DERM? is injected. JUV?DERM? can then be injected to fill in the defect and prevent it from reforming.

Safety of JUV?DERM? in Adolescents

While the safety of JUV?DERM? injectable gel for use in adolescents, i.e. patients under the age of 18 years, has not been established, serious risks relating to JUV?DERM? use in adolescence have also not been identified. ??

Side Effects of JUV?DERM?

Commonly reported side effects include a short-term rash, swelling or bruising at the skin puncture site. Possible skin infection may occur at the site of injection.

Medical History of Severe Allergies

Adolescents who have suffered many different types of serious allergic reactions, or those who have suffered anaphylaxis as a result of an allergy, are prohibited from undergoing JUV?DERM? treatments. Also, certain adolescents who have allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins or lidocaine should avoid these dermal filler injections.
