How to Prepare for ProLipo

ProLipo is a surgical procedure that is performed under local tumescent anesthesia, and can suction fat from all areas of the body, including the face and the neck areas. If you have opted for ProLipo, you should find out how to prepare the procedure.

How to Prepare for the ProLipo Procedure

ProLipo is a minimally invasive surgery and will require some preparation to make sure you don't experience complications. Inform your surgeon if you are on any type of medication, including birth control pills. Ideally, birth control pills should be replaced with different birth contraceptive methods at least 2 weeks prior to the ProLipo surgery.

Don't take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 2 weeks before the procedure. If you smoke, discontinuing smoking can be helpful, as the healing process will be faster. The procedure will require anesthesia, so you should avoid eating 4 hours before the procedure to avoid complications. Inform your plastic surgeon if you are allergic to epinephrine or similar compounds.

After the Procedure

The procedure takes between 1 and 4 hours, and you can return home after it is performed. Given that anesthesia is required, you should arrange for someone to pick you up after the procedure. You should also get some over the counter pain medication and have some ice packs ready to minimize the swelling. Typically, ProLipo can be performed in 2 to 6 sessions, depending on how much fat you would like to remove. For each of these sessions, you will have to prepare in the same manner.
