Want to Avoid the Knife? 3 Minimally Invasive Body Contouring Methods

If you're ready for a body contouring procedure, but do not want to get traditional liposuction, there are a number of other techniques available. Unlike going under the knife, these offer much less downtime and are minimally invasive. You're much less likely to encounter complications when you opt for one of the following methods:

AccentXL Radiofrequency

AccentXL is a handheld radiofrequency device that contours the body by tightening the skin and stimulating collagen. It also removes some fat cells. There's no cutting involved, so there's no risk of infection or similar complications. The production of new collagen plumps up the skin and makes it tighter, and it also removes some unwanted lines.

SmartLipo  is considered the latest scientific advance in laser liposuction. A small incision is required to insert the laser. The big advantage to SmartLipo is that it can target fat cells in areas that traditional liposuction can't. The upper abdomen, the inside of the arms and the neck are all difficult to treat with a regular liposuction operation. There's a danger of nicking a vein with the cutting involved in liposuction, so SmartLipo really can treat more areas of the body.

The dual lasers in the SmartLipo device liquefies targeted fat deposits. It also cauterizes the area at the same time, so there's very little risk of bleeding. The costs run between $2,000 and $8,000 per treatment, depending on the area of the body being operated on.

VASER Lipo (http://www.dermanetwork.org/information/vaser-liposelection.asp) uses sound waves to break up fat cells, which are then extracted. The device is FDA approved for use in treating any area of the body with unwanted fat. The procedure starts with a saline injection in the treatment area. The VASER Lipo device is then inserted through a small incision, and sound waves are applied. This breaks the fat cells loose from the surrounding tissue so they can be suctioned out.

All of these treatments are safe alternatives to traditional liposuction, but they do still have risks. Any of these procedures can produce unwanted results or complications, but they are generally much milder than those you'd experience if something goes wrong with a liposuction treatment.
