What to Expect During Cool Lipo

Cool Lipo, or the laser assisted lipolysis, is a cosmetic dermatology procedure that can eliminate fat cells from the face, chin, neck, arms or stomach. The procedure is gentle and is minimally invasive. If you are considering cool lipo, you should know what you should expect during a laser assisted lipolysis procedure.

Before the Procedure

The laser assisted lipolysis procedure requires local anesthesia, which will be performed 60 to 90 minutes prior to the surgery. If several parts of the body are treated, general anesthesia will be needed. Let your plastic surgeon know if you are allergic to anesthesia.

During the Procedure

The cool lipo procedure employs a 1320 nm wavelength laser. The plastic surgeon will make a few tiny incisions which will be strategically located, so that the scars are less visible. These incisions will allow the surgeon to insert a laser fiber, which will liquefy the fat before removing it. The surgeon will draw the tubular laser back and forth, extracting the fat cells that have turned into liquid. You won’t feel any pain, not even if you are only under local anesthesia.

Duration of Cool Lipo

Cool lipo is an outpatient procedure that will take 30 minutes up to 1 hour, depending on the areas you choose to treat. Please note that you have to be at the clinic 1-2 hours prior to the procedure to get the anesthetic.

You should also make arrangements for someone to pick you up after the surgery, as you may be dizzy due to the anesthesia.
