Potential Side Effects of Prevelle Silk

Prevelle Silk is a revolutionary injection with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that can be used in patients with wrinkles. The injections may also give fuller lips if injected in the mouth area. If you would like to get a Prevelle Silk treatment, you should get informed on the side effects and potential side effects of this cosmetic procedure. All side effects of Prevelle Silk should subside within 7 days, but typically won’t last over 3 days.

Swelling

Prevelle Silk is administered in a series of injections containing hyaluronic acid. The number of the injections will be established by the plastic surgeon, depending on the area that is treated and the depth of the wrinkles. Swelling is an inherent side effect of Prevelle Silk. The swelling will be more severe if the injections are applied in the lips, as the lips have numerous nerve endings.

Redness

Some patients may develop redness at the injection site. The redness will not be as evident in patients with darker complexion. Both the swelling and the redness may be minimized if the patient uses cold, soothing compresses (i.e. with chamomile tea) immediately after the Prevelle Silk procedure.

Bruising

Bruising is a potential side effect of Prevelle Silk. This may occur if certain capillaries are affected when the injections are administered.

Pain and Migraines

Pain can be present after the Prevelle Silk injections. Typically, patients that get the injections in the lip area experience more pain. Pain medications are recommended to reduce the soreness. Some patients have reported migraines and these have been associated with the Prevelle Silk treatment.

Skin Tenderness

The skin may feel tender when touched for a few days after the Prevelle Silk procedure. This may be due to the hyaluronic acid and the reactions of the body to the new substance. If your skin feels tender, you should avoid wearing makeup or use cosmetic products that contain alcohol or other astringents that could cause additional irritation. You should also sleep on your back until your face feels normal and you feel comfortable sleeping on your side.

Allergic Reactions

Prevelle Silk is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a compound that is produced in the human body. Therefore, allergic reactions are highly unlikely to occur and testing is not carried out prior to the treatment.

However, if you have a history of allergic reactions or anaphylaxis, you should ask for allergy testing prior to the Prevelle Silk injections. A small amount of Prevelle Silk will be injected in the arm. The injectible solution may cause an allergic reaction if the body fails to identify the compounds.

Granulomas

Even if rare, granulomas or lumps may form in the points where the Prevelle Silk injections are administered. These lumps may disappear in time, but may also persist and can only be removed with additional laser treatments.

In rare cases, these granulomas can be malignant and should be tested to prevent complications.
