How Smartlipo MPX is performed

Smartlipo MPX treatment is performed in-office or in a surgical suite, and only requires local anesthesia. Treatment usually takes less than two hours.

Your doctor will mark the treatment area with a pen and have you lie down. Local anesthetic is injected to numb the small incision areas. The whole area is then firmed and numbed using tumescent anesthesia, which is usually a mixture of saline and lidocaine. The Smartlipo MPX laser (which looks like a long, narrow rod) is then inserted under your skin and passed back and forth to melt fat and heat the collagen, which in turn tightens your skin. The melted fat is then suctioned away using a narrow, hollow rod called a cannula.

Recovery and results

You can expect a mild to moderate recovery depending on the extent of your procedure. You will have some swelling, bruising, discomfort, and pain for about a week. Most people will take 1-3 days off work and then slowly return to their normal schedule. You can expect some immediate results, but your final results will be most evident after about six months when you’re completely healed.
